Grown Up Problems Lyrics

Verse: 1
I'm looking back on days
We would go outside and play
Didn't have adult problems
At least that's what they would say
As if problems that we faced
Weren't over gender and/or race
How much cash our parents made
Or the places that we stayed
As if this separation
Starts later on in life
And pops up in adulthood
And takes us by surprise
We have got to face these lies
We could save a couple lives
They carry so much wisdom
I can see it in their eyes
While everyone around them
Make examples of disguise
What standard is this setting
What story are you telling?
Of excuses we were fed
And the ways that we were lead
Now I'm here to give a voice
To the ones that you forgot
For the ones who grew up lonely
And grew outside of the box
We're human, we are worthy
How dare you write us off
When some of you took more
Than any money's worth
A sacrifice  of childhood
Was  taken after birth

Hook: 2x
You know I'm looking back on days
We were told to just go play
No one heard what we had to say
It's no wonder we think this way

Verse: 2
I know I've had these problems
Even way back at the start
And I could've stayed angry
But I had a change of heart
So now I tell my story
And I'm selling it as art
From a five year old's perspective
Of when their parents fight
In order to remind you
We have problems all our life
But if problems are the focus
Then what's that make of us
As the ones these kids will watch
While they're still growing up
So when you speak to kids
Please just choose your words wisely
The problems that they face
You should not be downsizing
Offer time to listen
And teach them to resolve
If they grow up without support
Those problems will evolve
And the ones that will evolve
Will be labeled a lost cause
Then we lose 'em to the system
The truth'll go unwritten
While we're putting kids in prison
But we could stop it all
If we listen to the children
Eliminate indifference
But instead we measure problems
So that we can play the victims

Hook: 2x
You know I'm looking back on days
We were told to just go play
No one heard what we had to say
It's no wonder we think this way

Closing Hook:
You know I'm looking back on days
We were told to just go play
No one heard what we had to say
It's no wonder we think this way
No one heard what we had to say
It's no wonder we think this way
......
It's no wonder we think this way
